I always like finding black and tan layer combinations from the same brewery. In this case I had picked up a Sierra Nevada combo pack that had their Blindfold Black IPA, their Snow Wit White IPA and their Nooner Session IPA. With the Black IPA on the bottom, I found two good combinations. I think the Snow Wit gave the best dark-on-bottom layered beer combination. What do you think?

I picked up some Molson Golden a few weeks ago. Its taste is kind of like Heineken with a slight skunky flavor. Not everyone's taste but I like it. Turns out that it works well as a light colored top layer to some heavier dark colored beers.
Someone had mentioned to me that they couldn't get Budweiser to layer with anything. I hadn't tried Bud before though I had found that Miller Lite worked well as a top layer. Bud = Miller Lite right?? so off I went to find some Bud and help my customer out. Anyway, I couldn't find any straight Bud in my local grocery store so I picked up some Bud Ice. As seen in the pictures below, the Bud Ice layered well on top of canned Guinness and Real Ale Brewhouse Brown Ale. I'm sure the problem my customer had was that they tried to use Bud as a bottom layer under Guinness instead of over. Problem solved.
Here are some step-by-step instructions for finding and making a great 3 layer beer. (1) Find a good dark-on-bottom layered beer combination (2) Test if the potential middle-layer beer will layer under Guinness. If it does, you may have a winner! (3) Try making the 3-layer combination. Be careful not to pour the first bottom layer too high. You don't want to run out of room for the Guinness top layer Even on vacation I'm trying out different layered beer combinations. I picked up some beer before crossing the border into Canada as beer in Canada is a lot more expensive than in the US. I had mixed results but when experimenting on a balcony overlooking the beach I didn't mind at all.
The Sinister Black Ale from the 10 Barrel Brewing Co worked well under the Alaskan White. The Red Ale from 10 Barrel Brewing sort of layered under the Stanley Park Brewery's Noble Pilsner but the color difference wasn't that good. Whenever I find a new stout or porter I like to try it with many lighter top and bottom beers. Here are some nice black and tan layered beer combinations using Double Brown Stout from Deep Ellum Brewing (Dallas TX).
Memorial Day Friday is here. Time to start the weekend and relax. Here is a variety of layered beer suggestions for weekend experimentation.
Enjoy your weekend! I love finding triple layered Black and Tans! I picked up some New Belguim 1554 Black Lager the other day and tried some Blue Moon over it. The layering was really nice. Then I remembered that Guinness Draught layered well over Blue Moon. So, a few days later, I tried making a triple layer and it turned out great. See pictures below.
Unique beer names and labels always catch my eye. That is what happened when I saw cans of BABA Black Lager on a store shelf. The label says that it is USDA organic and herded by Uinta Brewing Co in Salt Lake City, Utah. 'Generally' black lagers are a good dark bottom layer so I tried it with some Bass Ale and later with some Hop Trapp IPA (Lakewood Brewing) on top. I was not disappointed. With both, the lighter colored ale layered nicely over the black lager. Check out the pics below.
